I’ve been seeing advertisements for the new art gallery on Kippenberger Avenue all over the place. So I couldn’t resist popping in for a quick nosy around the other day. Despite the fact that I had the kiddo with me and as anyone with any sense knows – toddlers and art don’t mix. Anyway, despite the kiddo throwing himself around the floor we got a nice warm, welcome from the friendly lady, Penny Wright, who runs the gallery.
Penny is herself an artist and comes from a family of artists. She opened the gallery in October of last year and says it is going well so far.
Housed in a lovely old 1920s building, the Artist’s Eye Gallery is currently showing a summer themed exhibition which includes some beautiful Oamaru stone sculptures, jewellery and textiles. There are also some great paintings from local artists. I particularly liked ‘Piled High’ by local artist Belinda Meares – where driftwood lies on a wild beach stretching out to the ocean.
Exhibitions will change each month and the summer exhibition wraps up on Saturday 1st February. Next up is an exhibition called Earth, Water, Fire, Ice which kicks off on Wednesday 5th February.
So pop in and have a look.
The Artist’s Eye Studio is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
