Well as I’m writing this it’s pouring with rain, but apparently the forecast is a bit more optimistic for tomorrow, so fingers crossed. Anyway, if the sun does make an appearance there’s a few things that might be fun.
Free fitness activities – If you’ve been thinking about joining a gym then this weekend is your chance to check out a couple of those in Rangiora. The McAlpines Mitre 10 Mega Sports Centre is holding an open weekend. You can try out a Les Mills class and use the weights room or cardio room. Classes are on a first come, first served basis and you have to book for RPM classes and MegaFit. You can get more details by clicking the link above but basically the open day runs Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm.
Snap Fitness are also opening their doors this weekend. You can try out the facilities, get free tips from a personal trainer as well as physio and nutrition advice. You can also join them for juice and cake apparently, although it doesn’t say how many hours you will need to do on the cross trainer to burn that off. Anyway, it’s on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
Don’t worry if gyms aren’t your thing, there are other things to do.
Saturday 1st March – Emergency Rescue Services Showcase – Pegasus Town, Woodend – 10am – 3pm – Free entry. This is a huge gathering of emergency services in Canterbury. Among others attending are the Fire Service, DOC, the Red Cross, St John, Civil Defence, New Zealand Air Force. As well as stalls many of the services will have activities for kids and there will be some demonstrations. For example, USAR are attending and will be doing a demo with their dogs. There’ll also be the usual coffee vans, sausage sizzles, etc. So get down there and support our emergency services.
Saturday 1st March – The Polo Classic – Rangiora Showgrounds – 10am gates open – Apparently polo is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the world, who’d have thought it? But anyway, it looks like it could be a fun day out. Entry is free, you can take a picnic or there will be food and drink to buy along with some entertainment for littles.
Saturday 1st March – Kaiapoi Kids Market – Charles Street, Kaiapoi – 9am to 12 midday. This will be alongside the farmers market. Bouncy castle, games, etc for kids.
Sunday 2nd March – Flaxwood Festival – Cotswold Manor, 182 Flaxton Road, Rangiora – 11.30am to 6pm – Music festival that will include a Johnny Cash tribute show. More details available on the festival website. Not a cheap option as tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for kids, but it’s a charity fundraiser event so it’s all for a good cause and this year that’s the Westpac Helicopter.
Sunday 2nd March – Swannanoa Country Fair – Swannanoa Domain, Tram Road – 10am till 3pm. I’ll be heading along to this one. It looks like it’ll be a fab day out – loads of craft and trade stalls, live entertainment, a miniature train and petting zoo and refreshments. Adults $5, Children free.
Sunday 2nd March – International Spy Day – Trousselot Park, Kaiaipoi – 3pm to 5pm. I spotted this ad in one of the local papers last week. It’s a free event for families where there’ll be a barbeque and spy related fun for the kids. It looks intriguing. If you’ve got kids of an age that might it enjoy, then head along and check it out.
That’s all folks. Have a great weekend.
