If you’re looking for a bit of gardening inspiration then there’s a great day out coming up – The Oxford Garden Fete takes place on 2nd November in the 4 acre Ribblesdale Garden.
Over 30 year olds this garden has all sorts of hidden gems so you’ll find plenty to interest the green-fingered. From azaleas and rhodos to natives and fragrant plants. A ‘secret room’, a woodland area and the intriguingly named ‘Stumpery’ are just some of the attractions here.
Denise Illingworth is the owner of the gardens and also one of the organisers of the event. She describes it as a ‘gardener’s garden’ with a ‘very kiwi can-do’ flavour to it. Denise also runs a small nursery on site and so you’ll have a chance to purchase all sorts of potted treasures. “There’s a lot of old fashioned things that you might not see in the larger retail nurseries anymore” says Denise.
But the fete will also get you inspired on the Christmas front as well. A selection of boutique stalls will be there on teh day, selling everything from fashion to jewellery to greeting cards. So if you’ve got a tricky to buy for person on your list – you might just find the right gift for them here.
Catering wise the popular Miss Lilly will be there with her pretty little truck selling all sorts of sweets, savouries and drinks. There’ll also be ice-cream sundaes, baked potatoes and sweet treats available.
Entry is $15 per person. Children under 12 are free. For further information visit www.oxfordfete.co.nz.
