Plenty of great stuff coming up for the gardeners amongst you.  Get inspired checking out beautiful gardens, stock up on bargain plants or learn how to make your own garden art – you can do all these things round North Canterbury in the next few weeks.

Ashley Gorge Garden Experience – Monday 27th October – 10am to 4pm – Six private gardens around the Oxford/Ashley Gorge area will be open to the publice on Labour Day.  This is the first time for this event so many of these gardens have not been seen before.  Tickets: $15 if you book in advance, $18 if you turn up on the day.  School age children are free.  Tickets available at a few local places including: Woodend Nurseries, Kaiapoi i-site and Emma’s in Oxford.

Art in a Garden – This runs from 30th Oct to 2nd November and sure it’s a wee drive, but it’s a great chance to see ‘Flaxmere’ which has been classifed as ‘a garden of national significance’ by the New Zealand Garden Trust.  And you also get to see art works on display from well regarded sculptors and painters.  Tickets $20. Oxford Garden Fete – Sun 2nd Nov  from 10am to 4pm – This takes place at Ribblesdale Gardens, Barracks Road, Oxford.  As well as shopping at the stalls, you get a chance to look around this established 4 acre garden with all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies – native area, stumpery, etc.  The nursery will also be open on site.  Tickets $15.  Children under 12 free.

Swannanoa Plant Sale – Sun 2nd Nov – 10am to 1pm  at Swannanoa School on Tram Road.  There are 10,000 plants up for sale – all shapes, sizes, types.  So if you’re looking to fill a spot in your garden this is your chance.

Kaiapoi Community Garden – Spring open day – Sun 9th Nov from 10am to 1pm –  A chance to buy seedlings at the sale table, learn how to make your own garden art and see a demo of how to make pitta bread on your BBQ.  The community garden is beside the railway line by the grounds of Kaiapoi Borough School.

Gardens of Fernside –   23rd November –  A bit closer to home, this one day event includes nine gardens, a Pimms tent and art exhibition.  You can also advance book a gourmet picnic lunch.  Tickets: $20 if you pre purchase, but $25 on the day.  Pre-purchase tickets are available from various spots in Rangiora including Continental Bakery, Fi’s Flowers n’ Arts, Rangiora Landscape, Rangiora Vet Centre, Reality Bites Cafe, Cream and Clover.
