Well, I’m looking forward to this one – Kaiapoi is getting a new night market starting next month.
The organisers aim to showcase some of the great things being grown and made north of the Waimak. Stalls will be selling everything from fashion to fresh produce, crafts to chutneys and there will be ready to eat food – so you can have dinner while you’re there and skip the cooking that night.
Stallholders already signed up include the Kaiapoi Community Garden – so expect to see some of their fantastic jams and preserves – and Martha Nellie Designer clothing with their fantastic fashion pieces.
The market itself is a project from community group You, Me, We, Us and is being organised in partnership with the Kaiapoi Promotions Association.
Linda Dunbar, Community Development Adviser, has been busy sorting out details of the upcoming market, looking for more great stallholders and finalising last minute details. “It’s not a business, it’s a community project” she says, “so any profits made by us as the organisers, will be put back into other community projects”. They are hoping the local community will get behind the market and pop along on Thursday evenings to buy some produce, have a bite to eat and browse the stalls. The aim is for there to be good quality stuff at affordable prices.
The market will be located at the corner of Williams Street and Charles Street (next to Mike Pero). The first one will be on Thursday 12th March from 5pm to 8pm and they will run every week.
There are still some vacancies for stallholders and stalls cost $20 for a 3m x 3m space. Also, they’re hoping local musicians and buskers might be interested in playing at the market. So if you’d like to sell your produce, arts and crafts or play a few numbers on your guitar – contact Linda Dunbar at firstname.lastname@example.org.
